Student Placement - General Studies

Placement exams are required in English and math for the incoming freshman class. Students who have taken Algebra I in their 8th grade may have to repeat the course if they do not demonstrate proficiency in the subject. It is also possible that in different schools the Algebra I course is not inclusive or taught in the depth of the level that is required for our high school. Those students who are proficient in Algebra I will proceed into the accelerated math program and begin Algebra II.

Students will be required to complete a grammar and reading comprehension exam and submit a timed writing sample. The writing sample will be evaluated by the English faculty for grammar and content. The 9th grade English curriculum places much emphasis on writing skills and written expression and therefore it is expected that students who achieve those skills will be able to move up into higher levels.
